Auto Paint Match

Scan a car panel to capture its color and get codes you can match anywhere.

Capture a car’s color for auto paint match

Touching up a scratch or matching a custom shade? A good auto paint match starts with reading the existing color accurately. Color Identifier reads the color straight off a clean body panel, or from a photo of the car, and turns it into exact, matchable codes.

How it works

  1. Open Color Identifier and choose Live Camera or From Photo.
  2. Aim at a clean, evenly lit panel, or tap that spot in a photo.
  3. Read the color name plus Hex, RGB, CMYK and Pantone codes.
  4. Save the reading to a palette.

For a reliable reading:

From color to matched paint

An auto paint match here gives you universal color codes rather than a factory code, so you are free to take them anywhere. Match the Hex, RGB, CMYK and Pantone values to the closest shade at any supplier. Save the reading first and the codes are ready whenever you order paint or visit a shop.

Frequently asked questions

How does auto paint match work in the app?

Point Color Identifier at a clean panel or open a photo of the car. It reads the color and returns Hex, RGB, CMYK and Pantone codes you can match.

Will it give me the manufacturer paint code?

No. It reads the actual color and gives universal codes, not a factory code or brand name. Use the values to find the closest matching paint.

Does metallic or glossy paint affect the reading?

It can. Scan a clean, evenly lit panel, avoid glare and reflections, and take a couple of readings to confirm the color.
