How to identify the paint color on a wall
Out of touch-up paint, or moving into a place with no records? You can identify the paint color on a wall in seconds with your iPhone — no chips, no trips to the store to compare.
- Open Color Identifier and choose Live Camera or From Photo.
- Aim at a clean, evenly lit section of the wall.
- Read the color name and its Hex, RGB, CMYK and Pantone values.
- Save it or export the codes for the paint store.
Why you’d need to
- Touch-ups that blend in instead of standing out.
- Repaints in the exact same shade.
- Moving in and documenting colors a previous owner never noted.
Tips for an accurate wall reading
Lighting matters most: use bright, even, natural light, avoid shadows and glare, and read a few spots, since walls fade unevenly over time.
From wall to store
The codes you capture work with any paint brand’s range, so you can find the closest match wherever you shop.
